Ask what is causing damage to the wall and what must be repaired before you specify the finish.
What you can see in the project record
The gallery documents material preparation, work in progress and the finished texture on older walls. The photographs give a practical way to discuss the finish you want. They do not establish the condition or repair cost of another house.
At the viewing, ask the surveyor what the walls are made of, where water enters and whether prior finishes are trapping moisture. Photograph the roof and gutter junctions, the foot of affected walls and any area where the finishes change.
Ask for work to be priced in stages
- Make the roof and drainage safe before pricing a finish to affected walls.
- Agree where an opening-up check or trial patch is needed.
- Ask for separate prices for preparation, repairs and finishing, including what would change the quote.
- Agree how you will review photos, approve changes and check work if you are in the UK.
